Your apprehension towards the system already showcases the amount of integrity you have. That said, if you did go through with ads on your videos I would not lose a drop of respect for you, and I think most people would agree with me on that.
Do what you feel is most right, if you think this could help garner a bigger audience for you then you could use it to gain revenue from other sources in the future, and you might not need to use youtube ads then! Good luck man
It's not really up to us man, these are your principles. I personally wouldn't be bugged in anyway if you monetized your channel, we all gotta eat man, especially in these times. Do what's best for you and your life.
Now, I'm a man of integrity first and foremost, but if you're getting the chance to make a little extra coin from your cartoons (Cartoons that you absolutely deserve to get paid for) then I'd say go for it; So long as you don't make any drastic changes to your content to "Please the youtube algorithm" like so many choose to do.
Run some ads, make some extra cash, you've earned it and you'll lose no respect from me or anyone else in their right mind if you do.
if you can make money off of your videos without compromising the quality of them (which judging by this you are in no danger of doing) i'd say go for it. at the end of the day if it lets you keep making content then everybody wins. i understand not wanting to resort to using youtube's ad revenue, but you can always stop monetizing your videos on there if you can find a more stable solution, and you can use this as a way of making it easier in the meantime.

I know its a dream, but dont give in to youtube ad revenue. Its not sustainable. It will fuckin turn on you whenever the hell they feel like it.
Use Patreon instead. Its the lesser evil and it wont be changing its terms any time soon. Considering Patreon allows NSFW content (it makes them a retarded amount of money) they wont be quick to changing terms like youtube. Safer bet in my humble opinion.

While I understand your apprehension to want to even interact with YT's broken systems more then you have to, at the same time, It's not really that bad. No one's really going to be angry with you for interacting with the main way people make money online in this way.
That said, this isn't going to be an offer that goes away or has a limited time availability or something. You have all the time in the world to think about this, since you'll still apply for monetization two months from now as much as you do today. So, use that time, and think on it.
There's no time limit, and it's your call.
